Your kind of country...
Local Radio in Emerald has come a long way from its humble beginnings in October 1997.
Radio Station 4EEE has made its mark serving the Emerald Community since it was first started with a temporary license in the kitchen of an office in Emerald.
The first broadcasts were conducted by a group of local enthusiasts who were interested in providing a service for the people of Emerald, with a local input.
In fact the desire to establish a local radio station can be traced to a number of Emerald Chamber of Commerce Inc. meetings held as far back as in 1968.
At that time the Chamber formed a subcommittee to lobby the Federal Government with a view of obtaining a license to establish a local radio station.
In time the lobbing was successful, the government did make a license available and after a hearing the license was granted to the opposing group who's interests already included five radio stations in Queensland.
Whilst the decision, for some, was disappointing it marked the very beginning of a new campaign to have another license made available whereby the local people could have a say in determining their own destiny.
This dream was finally realised on 24th October 1997 when radio station 4EEE made its first transmission over the local airwaves. Since then the quest has been to continually upgrade services to meet the growing demands of the local community, both for today and into the future.
